How to Set Up GateKeeper with a DYMO Wireless Label Printer

Updated over 4 weeks ago

Overview

In this guide, you will learn how to set up a fully self-service GateKeeper system using your DYMO Wireless Label Printer and iPad-, Android tablet–, or Windows PC–based kiosks.

WARNING: The DYMO Wireless Label Printer (a.k.a. the DYMO LabelWriter Wireless) can work with CrisisGo GateKeeper under certain conditions; however, its hardware and print quality do not meet GateKeeper's requirements.

Although we provide setup guidance, use of this printer is not recommended. It has not been fully tested, and we cannot guarantee backward compatibility. Use it at your own discretion.

Setup with Windows PC–Based Kiosks

If you are using Windows PC–based kiosks, follow this step-by-step guide to complete the setup process. If you are using iPad- or Android tablet–based kiosks, see the section titled "Setup with iPad- or Android Tablet–Based Kiosks" below.

1. Prerequisites

You'll need the following hardware and settings ready:

  • A working DYMO Wireless Label Printer.

  • A Windows PC running Windows 10 or later that will serve as the kiosk.

  • Connect your Windows kiosk and DYMO printer to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Install DYMO Connect v1.4.9.12

On your Windows PC, download the official DYMO Connect software here:

Or, you can visit DYMO Software Download Center and download it by selecting: Search by Machine > LabelWriter Wireless > Windows > Windows 10 (or Windows 11).

WARNING: Please ensure you download version 1.4.9.12; otherwise, you may experience unexpected behavior.

Then, install the downloaded file and ensure you select Complete Installation; otherwise, you may miss required components from DYMO Connect.

3. Test DYMO Web Service

After installing DYMO Connect software and rebooting your Windows PC, the DYMO Connect Web Services should be ready. You have to perform a basic test to ensure the web service is running properly. Click the button below to start the test.

If everything is set up correctly and your DYMO Wireless Label Printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Windows PC, you should see something like this:

<Printers><LabelWriterPrinter>

<Name>DYMO LabelWriter Wireless</Name>

<ModelName>DYMO LabelWriter Wireless</ModelName>

<IsConnected>True</IsConnected>

<IsLocal>True</IsLocal><IsTwinTurbo>False</IsTwinTurbo></LabelWriterPrinter></Printers>

If you do not see this message or the value listed in the <IsConnected> pair is not True, your DYMO Connect Web Service is not configured properly, or your DYMO Wireless Label Printer is not connected to your Windows PC correctly. Please follow this FAQ to resolve the issue before proceeding.

STOP: Ensure you have passed the test above; otherwise, your GateKeeper ecosystem will not work properly.

4. Enroll Your Kiosk

After passing the test above, follow the instructions to configure your kiosk device and enroll it in the CrisisGo GateKeeper system: How to Add Your Own Kiosk (BYOD) to GateKeeper.

5. Final Test

Finally, test your GateKeeper ecosystem to ensure it works as expected.

Setup with iPad- or Android Tablet–Based Kiosks

1. Prerequisites

You'll need the following hardware and settings ready:

  • A working DYMO Wireless Label Printer.

  • An iPad- or Android tablet–based kiosk.

  • Connect your kiosk and DYMO Wireless Label Printer to the same Wi-Fi network.

  • A Windows PC running Windows 10 or higher.

NOTE: A Windows PC is still needed to act as a middleman and transmit print commands between your kiosk and label printer. This is because DYMO doesn't provide official iOS or Android SDKs (Software Development Kits) for third-party vendors like CrisisGo, so the CrisisGo app on iOS and Android can't send print commands directly from your kiosk to the DYMO printer.

2. Basic Configurations

Follow the same instructions from the "Setup with Windows PC–Based Kiosks" section to:

3. Assign Label Printer to The Kiosk

After you have passed the DYMO Connect Web Service test and enrolled your kiosk in the GateKeeper ecosystem, it's time to assign your DYMO Wireless Label Printer to that kiosk device. Follow this guide to complete the assignment: How to Assign a Label Printer to a Kiosk.

4. Final Test

Finally, test your GateKeeper ecosystem to ensure it works as expected.
