Due to support for ChromeOS Apps being phased out by Google across all operating systems by November 5, 2022, CrisisGo can no longer supports native ChromeOS Apps for our users.
To continue using CrisisGo on your Chromebook, please choose one of the following options:
Option 1: Install and use the CrisisGo Android app.
Option 2: Install and use the CrisisGo Chrome Extension.
Install & Use the CrisisGo Android App
To install the CrisisGo Android app on your Chromebook, you first need to check whether your device has access to the Google Play Store. Follow Google's official guidance below to check availability:
If your Chromebook supports Android apps,
For individual users, follow Google's official guidance and search for 'CrisisGo' in the Play Store to install it. Otherwise, you will need to use the CrisisGo Chrome Extension instead—see the section below for details.
For admins who manage Android apps on Chromebooks in a school or organization, please follow the official Google guidance listed below.
Install & Use CrisisGo Chrome Extension
In case some Chromebook devices do not have access to the Google Play Store and cannot install the CrisisGo Android app, we also provide a Chrome extension called 'CrisisGo Safety Client Chrome Extension'. This extension allows users to access core CrisisGo features, such as receiving alerts on their Chromebook.
NOTE: The extension requires Google Chrome version 95 or higher.
WARNING: Due to Chromebook system security restrictions, third-party apps cannot display notifications or play custom sounds when the Chromebook is locked. In other words, even if your CrisisGo Chrome Extension receives an alert, you will not see the alert prompts or hear the alert sounds until you unlock the screen.
TIP: Because of this limitation, if you want to use your Chromebook as a dedicated device solely for reliably receiving CrisisGo Alerts, follow this Google guidance to disable the screen lock.
1. Install the Extension
For individual users, follow Google's official guidance to add the CrisisGo Chrome Extension. In Step 2, search for 'CrisisGo Safety Client Chrome Extension'.
For administrators who manage Chrome policies from the Google Admin Console, follow this Google guidance to automatically install 'CrisisGo Safety Client Chrome Extension' for your organization.
2. Sign In to the Extension
After installing the extension, you will see the red CrisisGo logo in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser's toolbar. Click the logo to open the extension.
Then click 'Sign In'. You will be redirected to the CrisisGo Safety Client login page. Enter your CrisisGo credentials to complete the sign-in process.
After signing in to the Safety Client, you should see an avatar with your name displayed in the extension, indicating a successful sign-in.
If your browser remains on the Safety Client web page after signing in, you can safely close that page—your extension is already signed in, and CrisisGo alerts will be delivered via the extension.
