CrisisGo PWA FAQs

Q: Why can't I receive notifications from CrisisGo PWA?

There are multiple reasons that can cause an end-user to not receive CrisisGo PWA notifications. While we are still gathering additional reasons, the most common ones are as follows:

  • The CrisisGo PWA does not have permission to send you notifications. Please check this section to enable the permission.

This list will continue to be updated to show all the causes we have gathered so far.

Q: The 'Notifications' permission is turned OFF?

When you are using the CrisisGo PWA, you may see an error banner at the top of your home screen that says,

  • The "Notifications" permission is turned OFF, which means CrisisGo won't be able to send you notification prompts...

  • or "You have disabled notification..."

This means, literally, that you need to turn the Notifications permission ON for the CrisisGo PWA. Otherwise, you will not receive notifications when you close the PWA or reboot your device. Here's how.

1. For users on Google Chrome browser

If you are using the CrisisGo PWA in Google Chrome browser directly:

  1. Click the settings icon on the left side of the search bar.

  2. In the prompt, turn ON the Notifications permission.

  3. Close the prompt, and you will receive a system banner that says, "Reload this page to apply your updated settings", then, click "Reload".

  4. After you have turned on the notification permission and reloaded the page, the CrisisGo PWA error banner will be gone, and you will then be able to receive notifications.

2. For users with the PWA installed

If you have already installed the CrisisGo PWA on your device, adjusting the settings is also simple:

  1. Open the CrisisGo PWA app, click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, then select "App Info".

Q: The alert sound does not play unless the device is open and the PWA is active on the screen

Currently, this is the expected behavior. The CrisisGo Alert sound can only play when the PWA is active in the foreground. If the PWA is closed or minimized to the background, the Chrome browser and Chromebook system do not allow it to play the customized sound. Instead, a standard system notification sound, 'Dingdong', is played.

This behavior is due to limitations set by Google. While we are actively exploring possible solutions to bypass these restrictions, this is how the system functions for now.
